I would like to get started on Norweigian today. I want a good resource which will show me the actual word it self and show it's pronuciation, but I also want the audio to be sounded out so I know exactly the tone to use. I've seen the links on the right hand side of this page, but I'm wondering which of those would meet my critera. I want to be able to become fluent in Norwegian by the time I finish it, so I'll be looking for a resource which has a lot of information and can teach me both grammar and pronuciation. I don't want the pronucation to be text based e.g: 'A as in father' I want to listen to the actual word it self. Is it worth learning the alphabet first? I've never learnt another language before so I'm unfamilar with the process. Sorry for posting a question like this as you probably have this question all the time. I have a similar approach to zajczex's. I also use Anki but with my own decks (in the beginning). I got the book, which comes with audio CDs. ![]() I ripped the CDs and saved each word from the vocabulary lists as separate MP3s, so that I could add them to my Anki decks for each vocab (this took quite a while, but worth it I think). I find having the audio is incredibly helpful, especially with a language like Norwegian. Other things that help me learn and you may want to try out are: • Adding a picture when possible, or even having a picture instead of the english word (to help you associate the norwegian word with what it actually refers to, and not to its english translation) • Colour-coding nouns. Masculine nouns are written in blue, feminine in red and neuter in green. That way, I memorise the articles much better, as I often think of the colour of the word as well as its article. Now that I've finished the book, I have started using Anki shared decks and importing memrise decks to Anki using to extend my vocabulary. I'd like to watch Norwegian-language movies with subtitles, but those are hard to find -- so if anyone has tips, please share:) • • • •.
